Sports First Aid

First Aid International Sports First Aid is a comprehensive 12 hour (2 day), CPR and first aid training course for sports coaches, both recreational and professional.  This programme features diverse sporting scenarios including football, rugby, athletics, racket sports, basketball and many more.

Ashwood Health can provide in house training for regional sports clubs, colleges and associations all over the UK.  The courses can be tailored towards your particular sport and everyday scenarios.  

Coaches learn the essential skills for responding to an ill or injured athlete, (both child and adult) prior to the Emergency Medical Services.

This Sports First Aid course is recognised, endorsed and approved by many sporting organisations including Sprito, the Sport and Recreational Industry Training Organisation, and also meets industry needs and the mapping of the qualification to the NVQ in Sport, Recreation and Allied Occupations. 

This course meets the recommendations by the HSE for Appointed Persons in the Workplace, and certificates are valid for three years.

The Sports syllabus will give the athlete and/or coach skills in dealing with emergencies occurring during play, practice and training.  These skills include Primary Care:

  • Scene assessment & safety
  • CPR (child and adult)
  • Choking management (child and adult)
  • Control of bleeding
  • Shock management

and Secondary Care:

  • Sprains/strains and contusions
  • Abdominal injury
  • Heart problems
  • Lifting and moving
  • Return to play
  • And much more

All candidates receive comprehensive work and reference books issued by
