Sports Therapy

A range of 1 day (6 hour) workshops, including; Muscle Energy Techniques (MET), Trigger Points, Soft Tissue Release (STR), and Hands Free Massage.

Muscle Energy Techniques – Sunday 26th April
MET’s, a mild form of treatment to enhance muscle integrity, flexibility and joint range of movement.  Muscle energy techniques have been proved to be a very effective way of reversing the effects of sub-clinical muscle spasm and hypertonicity of muscles.  We look at three variations of the treatment including PIR, RI, and CRAC.  This form of treatment can easily be implemented into your massage routine, as well as independently for warm up to exercise.

Trigger Points – TBA
There is much researched evidence that most common pains and disorders are attributable to trigger points, ‘a hyper irritable spot’ usually found in taut muscle or fascia.  Many go undiagnosed, with symptoms incorrectly treated with medication, physio treatment and sometimes surgery.  Here we learn about the common causes, clinical presentation, typical pathways of referred symptoms and the treatment plan.

Hands free massage – Sunday 8th February
Raise your awareness of how to provide quality treatments without the intense stresses put on the hands.  Many therapists complain about back ache, pain in the hands and thumbs, and fatigue.  This workshop looks at each individual and the common errors made by therapists when working in the clinic, i.e. couch height, body weight distribution, posture, use of knees and hips in controlling body movement, and support for the hands and thumbs under stress.  You will learn to correct your body patterns, and get the best from other tools such as knuckles, forearms, elbows and knees.
